5 Finger Rule:
When searching for chapter books, students are asked to use the 5 Finger Rule for book selection. The student should read any page in the book - each time there is an unknown word, one finger goes up. At the end of the page, if there are 0-1 fingers up, the book may be too easy...4-5 fingers, the book may be too hard....2-3 fingers up, the book may be just right.
Selecting "good fit" books is part of a second grade ELA unit and is in accordance with NYS Learning Standards and Common Core Learning Standards.

Student Responsibilities:

  1. Students are to be considerate to others.
  2. Students are expected to observe all school rules and library procedures.
  3. Students must sign out all materials used.
  4. Students with outstanding materials will not be allowed to sign out more library materials, but can use all materials during school hours.
  5. Students are expected to take care of all library materials and are expected to pay for all damaged or lost items. Students will be charged the cost of replacing the item.
